Now Commenting On:

Jon Niese will come off the DL on Monday and make his turn in the rotation against the Mariners in Seattle.  Daisuke Matsuzaka is officially out of the rotation with the move. Matsuzaka will move to the bullpen and is available for Sunday's series finale against the Padres.

Niese went on the DL with a left-shoulder strain on July 6th and with the All-Star break missed only one start. Niese is 5-4 with a 2.96 ERA. Matsuzaka has started nine games for the Mets this season in spot starts. He is 3-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 26 games. Matsuzaka is 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA in nine starts. Manager Terry Collins met with Matsuzaka Sunday morning to break the news (ESPN, July 20).

“I don’t feel it’s something to comment on. I’m just going to pitch where I’m told and it’s done,” Matsuzaka said through an interpreter via ESPN.

Niese  threw a bullpen on Friday and said he was ready to pitch (Metsblog, July 18).
