Mets ace Jacob deGrom is one of the top contenders to win the 2019 NL Cy Young. If he does, it would give him back-to-back Cy Young awards -- making him the first Met to ever accomplish that feat. Here's where things stand in the race...
Jacob deGrom, Mets
Key stats: 2.61 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 239 K's (11.3 per 9) in 190 IP (30 starts), 6.2 WAR (FanGraphs), 6.9 WAR (Baseball Reference)

Next start: Sept. 20 @ Reds
Trending: UP, with back-to-back dominants starts against the D-backs and Dodgers. He's thrown seven innings in six straight starts 11 of his last 13.
Max Scherzer, Nationals
Key stats: 2.65 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 222 K's (12.5 per 9) in 159.2 IP (25 starts), 6.4 WAR (FanGraphs), 6.0 WAR (Baseball Reference)
Last start: Battled through five innings against the Braves, allowing three runs on seven hits to the Braves on Sept. 13.
Next start: Sept. 18 @ Cardinals
Trending: DOWN, with two non-quality starts in his last three outings. Scherzer is running out of time to make his case, especially after missing starts in both July and August.

Trending: UP, with a great start against the Nationals, the 21-year-old leads the National League with a 180 ERA+.
Hyun-Jin Ryu, Dodgers

Sonny Gray, Reds
Key stats: 2.80 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 190 strikeouts (10.4 per 9) in 163.2 IP (29 starts), 4.1 WAR (FanGraphs), 5.3 WAR (Baseball Reference)

Patrick Corbin, Nationals (3.20 ERA, 1.15 WHIP)
Jack Flaherty, Cardinals (3.05 ERA, 1.03 WHIP)
Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers (3.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP)
Stephen Strasburg is high on the WAR leaderboards, but his 3.49 ERA is likely far off the pace needed to win the award.
