Are the Mets interested?: So far, the Mets are not among the five teams to show early interest in free-agent OF Melky Cabrera, a person with knowledge of his situation said in early November (Vorkunov, Nov. 7). Cabrera, who was extended a qualifying offer by Toronto, will cost his new team a first-round pick in next year's draft if he turns it down and, according to a team source, the Mets have very little interest in giving up their top pick (15th overall) (Martino, Nov. 4).
What is he looking for?: MLB Trade Rumors projected Cabrera to sign a five-year, $66 million deal (MLBTR, Oct. 14).
Who has shown interest?: The Mariners and Blue Jays are the only teams to be linked this winter to Cabrera (MLBTR).
Is he worth it: In a November poll on MetsBlog, 84% of more than 5,000 voters said Cabrera is not worth a five-year, $66 million contract to the Mets.
