Now Commenting On:

According to the Associated Press, Carl Pavano had his spleen removed last week after the pitcher was injured when he fell in the snow. He has been in a Connecticut hospital for nearly two weeks.

In early January, the Star-Ledger said the Mets had been having preliminary discussions with Pavano, who has also been pursued this winter by the Rockies and others.

As I said last week, the Mets are still looking to acquire another starting pitcher, even after signing Shaun Marcum. There were reports over the weekend connecting the Mets to free-agent Roy Oswalt, which remains a possibility, as well as other free agents. My guess is they'd like to get a veteran on a minor-league deal to give them more options in camp, be it for the rotation or maybe even in the bullpen...
