The Mets have won five games in a row, are 5.0 games back of the second Wild Card spot in the National League, and have two months left to make something special happen.
With that in mind, Pete Alonso penned an impassioned rallying cry on Wednesday:
Thank you guys so much for your unwavering support. You guys have been unreal all year. We are in crunch time. We've played over 2 weeks more on the road than at home thus far. During the months of August and September, we're going to have a ton more home games.
The boys are hot and we've been working our asses off. Hard work has been really paying off this second half. The rest of the season is going to be a really fun, wild, and memorable ride.
Our goal is to make history. We strive every day to be great and nothing less.
We need you guys, the fans, more than ever for these last two months. Together, let's be a part of history. LFGM
While Alonso and his teammates are hoping to make a run (Noah Syndergaard said Tuesday night that he didn't want the Mets to sell at the deadline), their playoff odds have increased in a big way recently.
The Mets making a run good enough to reach the postseason is still a longshot, but the odds are creeping up.
