After winning the Cy Young while posting a 1.70 ERA in 2018, the prevailing thought was that there was no way Jacob deGrom could top that in 2019. That was before deGrom started unleashing a slider that ranges between 92 and 95 MPH.
With the above slider -- and his filthy fastball and changeup and curve -- deGrom turned in arguably the best start of his career on Wednesday night against the Marlins, firing 7.0 shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking one, and striking out a career-high 14.
