Joe Girardi said Wednesday during an appearance on 670 The Score in Chicago that "any job out there is going to interest me, because I want to manage again," adding that he has "a lot of ties to Chicago."

The Mets job could open up in the coming days if the team parts ways with Mickey Callaway. Aside from the Mets possibly looking for a replacement, the Cubs, Angels, and Padres are among the teams searching for a new manager.

SNY's Andy Martino reported over the summer that the Mets have done background work on Girardi. Martino reported Tuesday that the team has expressed private concerns about Girardi's sometimes tense demeanor with players and media, but are drawn to his skill, intelligence and experience, adding that Girardi wants to manage again and would consider the Mets.

Girardi's tenure with the Yankees ended after the 2017 season, when the team lost to the Astros in seven games in the ALCS.

During his time in the Bronx, Girardi was known for his deep preparation and oversaw a team that went 910-710 during his 10 years at the helm. The 2009 Girardi-led Yankees won the World Series.

There were also some hiccups during Girardi's time with the Yankees, including reports of a strained relationship between him and Gary Sanchez. For his part, Sanchez said he never had any issues with Girardi.
