Jacob deGrom tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He left with a 2-0 lead and a chance at his first win. Then the bullpen took over...

Scott Rice gave up a solo homer in the eighth inning, after which Jose Valverde gave up a double to Starling Marte and single to Jose Tabata to tie the score. Valverde was then rocked in the ninth inning and gave up a two-run single by Gabby Sanchez. In total, Valverde gave up four runs, four hits and a walk in 0.2 innings for the loss.

The Mets offense wasn't much better. They scored two runs in the fifth and that's it. Daniel Murphy had two hits, as did Lucas Duda. DeGrom also had two hits.

The Mets host the Pirates on Tuesday. Jon Niese (3-3, 2.70 ERA) goes for the Mets against Edison Volquez (2-4, 4.37 ERA) at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
