Free agent reliever Matt Albers is expected to sign with a team next week, though the identity of that team is unknown, according to Jerry Crasnic of ESPN.
The Mets have been open about their infatuation with relievers and could still be in the Albers market despite having just signed RH reliever Anthony Swarzak to a two-year deal worth $14 million.
Albers, 34, enjoyed a fantastic 2017 after a disastrous 2016. In 2017, Albers had a 1.62 ERA and .852 WHIP in 61 IP with 63 K. But in 2016 he endured a dreadful 6.31 ERA and 5.26 K/9 rate. It may be a gamble to bank on his 2017 production as the RHP has career marks of 4.13 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.
