However, in the ninth inning, Bobby Parnell gave up a double, threw a wild pitch, a single, another double, and a sac-fly, all of which resulted in two runs, a blown save and a loss.
Parnell had converted seven straight save attempts entering the game.
“It’s a little tough, but I’ll take Bobby any day," Hefner told reporters after the game, according to the Daily News. "He’s been great all year. Today he just had a bad day. He’ll be ready tomorrow.”
Parnell pointed out that this was not his first blown save and it will not be his last.
Earlier this week, Dan Warthen told the New York Post that Parnell should be on the All-Star team, "because he's done the job each and every time he's walked to the mound."
Parnell is 4-2 with a 2.55 ERA, 23 strike outs in 24 innings, and nine saves in 12 chances.
"I've definitely thought about it, but not too much," Parnell told the Post, in regards to whether he may end up on the All-Star team. "I'm pitching well right now and everything feels good, but that a long way away."
