Now Commenting On:

After last night's 8-2 loss to the Padres, Sandy Alderson told reporters Jenrry Mejia will not pitch again until he visits with team doctors in New York for his elbow.

"I wouldn't expect [Mejia] to pitch any time until he's seen by [the team's] doctor," Alderson explained.

Mejia left last night's game in the fourth inning with discomfort in his right elbow - he will require surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow after the season.

As for who might replace Mejia in the rotation, Alderson wasn't sure which option they would turn to due to many of their young pitchers reaching their innings limits in the minor leagues as well as flexibility issues regarding the 40-man roster.

"There are innings limitations on some of our young guys who have risen through the system pretty quickly," Alderson said. "There are roster issues with guys who may not have to be put on the roster. There are different issues that we have to sort through."

With the injury to Jeremy Hefner and the question mark surrounding Mejia, Carlos Torres could be an option to rejoin the rotation, although he's 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA in three games as a starter.
