Jake Pettit allowed 6 runs on 4 hits over 4.1 IP in his last start, walking 3 and striking out 5. Lefties are hitting just .140 against him.
Logan Verrett leads the EL in winz with 7, tied with Rafael Montero. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks over 6 IP in his last start.
Justin Haley threw 125 pitches in his last start... of course there was a four day break mid game as rain made a mess of the recent Greenville-Charleston series'.
Luis Cessa has allowed 1 run over his last three starts, striking out 23 and walking 2 with 16 hits over 20.1 IP.
Since a spot start in AAA Rafael Montero has thrown 20 shutout innings for Binghamton, striking out 18, walking 4, and allowing 11 hits. He is striking out 27% and walking 4% of batters at the AA level and giving up a 19% line drive rate. Time for a new challenge. Montero takes the rotation spot of Carlos Torres who had his contract purchased by the Mets today. Torres had an opt out clause, which forced the Mets hand, optioning Greg Burke and designating for assignment Collin McHugh. Its an odd move to say the least, protecting a player who is very similar to the one they had to DFA to make room for him, and basically the last man in the pen.
