Thanks to an outstanding pitching performance from Rafael Montero and a few timely hits, the Las Vegas 51s defeated the Oklahoma City RedHawks 4-1 Saturday night at Cashman Field.
Final pitching line for Montero: 7IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 9K.
This was the third consecutive wonderful effort from Montero, who collected his fourth AAA win in 2013. In his last three starts (21IP), the righty has surrendered just 12 hits and four runs, with 20 strikeouts and five walks. The 22-year-old has thrown six or more innings in four consecutive appearances and has issued only two base on balls in his last 15 innings.
Travis d'Arnaud had a very nice night with the lumber, going 2-3 with two doubles, a walk and two runs scored as the DH. He has three hits in six at-bats since being promoted to Vegas three days ago.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis also hit the ball well Saturday, contributing a double and homerun (11) in four trips. The homer came leading off the bottom of the 1st inning.
Notes: Matt den Dekker had two singles and a run batted in....Ruben Tejada was 0-4 and is now 0-12 in the series.
