Mejia is joining the big league rotation tonight for the first time in two years to the day. He went 2-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A Buffalo this season. In his Major League career, Mejia is 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA in 11 1/3 innings over three games as a starting pitcher.
Update, 6:15 pm: Terry Collins told reporters Mejia will be on an 85-pitch limit tonight.
Shawn Marcum (5-4, 3.71 ERA) will start for the Brewers tonight.
Marcum is making his 18th start of the year - he missed over two months of this season with an elbow injury. He is averaging under five innings per start since his return, having allowed 11 earned runs in 19 2/3 innings over that span. Marcum is making his first start of the year against the Mets tonight - he is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two career starts against New York.
Mejia had been most comfortable as a starting pitcher while with Triple-A Buffalo this season. With that said, I'm curious to see how Mejia manages his innings tonight, and whether or not he can maintain his stamina to give the team a lengthy outing. He has said he wants to be a starting pitcher and show the organization he shouldn't be in the bullpen - he is going to get the opportunity to prove himself over the final 2 1/2 weeks of the season.
