It was a tumultuous year in 1969: war, riots and strikes that divided New York City. But in one of the most improbable feats in sports history, the city rallied together once again.
The Mets, Jets and Knicks all won their respective championships when New York needed it most, and SNY is celebrating the 50th anniversary of this amazing accomplishment with a new documentary.
"We felt compelled to not only commemorate the 50th Anniversary of New York's championship year -- but also to share this remarkable piece of the city's history in a contemporary way that is relevant to fans of all ages," said SNY President Steve Raab.
Presented by Verizon Fios, "62,000:1 - THREE TEAMS, ONE CITY, ONE YEAR" is the title of the documentary that will premiere on SNY on July 3 after the Mets-Yankees post-game show. The documentary was made in partnership with Hollywood producer Basil Iwanyk and his company Thunder Road Films, while being directed by Pete Sillen.
"As a life-long and obsessive fan of the Mets, Jets, and Knicks, it is one of the true highlights of my career to be entrusted to tell the story of these three teams and show the collective strength, devotion, and humor of the best fans in the best city in the world: New York," Iwanyk said.
While setting the scene during that year, the film will feature exclusive interviews with stars from those three teams. Some of the players include Joe Namath, Bill Bradley, Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Cleon Jones, Jerry Koosman and Ed Kranepool to name a few. Celebrities, journalists, and many more athletes will be featured as well.
