The Mets are Red Sox are among the four teams currently showing interest in free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Bowden, Feb. 18), but the Mets are unlikely to sign him at his asking price.

"At the numbers he's looking for, we don't think he's worth it compared with what we have," a Mets executive said (DiComo, Feb. 19)

Drew may still be seeking as much as $14 million a year, which the Mets have no interest in paying (Puma, Feb. 18). According to reports, Drew wants at least a three-year contract, maybe including an opt-out after one year, while the Mets, Red Sox and others are rumored to only have interest in giving him a very short-term deal.

Since he has not signed with a big-league team, so he will start his spring training at the new Scott Boras training facility in North Miami later this week (Cafardo, Feb. 16).
