Steven Matz threw a total of 102 pitches over 6.0 innings during Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Braves. After the game, he addressed a minor injury that he's been dealing with -- a blister on his middle finger.
"It's been pretty much coming... for the whole second half it just flares up from mainly off the slider," Matz said.
With the loss on Sunday, Matz is now 8-8 on the season with a 4.06 ERA. It was his first loss since Aug. 2 against the Pirates, when he lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed five earned runs.
"It's just something I'll have to manage, I didn't really throw any sliders or even curve balls in between starts at this point," Matz said. "I feel comfortable enough with them. It's fine when I'm out there, just have to manage between starts."
