"We played very well the last couple of weeks to get back in kind of the mix, so this is a big dent," Collins said about getting swept by the Nationals, who now lead the Mets by 11 losses in the NL East. "I told the guys just a couple of minutes ago, ‘Let’s go win seven of the next eight.’ We’ll be back in the hunt.”
The Mets trail six teams and are eight losses back of the final Wild Card spot with 41 games to play.
They'll need to go roughly 29-12 the rest of the season to get to October baseball.
The Mets will need to go 24-17 to finish .500 for the first time since 2008.
“I think that’s definitely a goal of ours,” Sandy Alderson said earlier this week. “We know perception is reality. Certain things change perception and some things don’t."
