Now Commenting On:

Top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard may not be among the handful of players called up when rosters expand on Sept. 1 (Puma, Aug. 24).

Syndergaard, who wowed the Mets with his ability in spring training, is about 30 innings away from his innings limit for the 2014 season. He has an 8-7 record with a 4.85 ERA in 124 1/3 innings at Triple-A Las Vegas. The organization is waiting for a better on field performance before calling up the prized 21-year old.

“You’ve got to be a little more consistent,” manager Terry Collins told reporters on Saturday before a loss to the Dodgers. “He’s had some good games, but he’s had some rough games."

Syndergaard figures to get two more starts in Triple-A before the regular season ends. How far Las Vegas goes in the Triple-A playoffs will also play a factor in whether he is called up.
