Teagarden was apparently getting treatment for the injury before he was called up from Las Vegas (Rubin, June 24).
Teagarden's injury resulted in the Mets not having to decide who to demote to make room for Travis d'Arnaud, who was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Without the injury, the Mets would've had to make a decision between Teagarden and Anthony Recker.
Recker has an option remaining, meaning he would not need to pass through waivers to be sent to the minor leagues. Teagarden can become a free agent regardless of waivers.
Teagarden, 30, was hitting .143 with a .200 OBP in 30 plate appearances for the Mets.
