Now Commenting On:

Teams expressed interest in acquiring a Mets reliever before the non-waiver trade deadline, and at least two teams showed interest in Daniel Murphy, but Sandy Alderson told SNY on Friday that he had no interest in breaking up the big-league roster.

“We didn’t want to break up the team unless it made sense for us, in terms of value and immediate contribution," he said. "As a result, in those situations, it’s not like we refused to talk, but we have a very high standard that someone would have to meet.”

In the end, Alderson said he he didn't miss many opportunities to make his team better.

“I didn’t feel there was anybody we absolutely missed, outside of one or two exceptions," he said. "A couple of guys the Diamondbacks traded you look at and say to yourself, ‘Well, gee, we could have at least had a conversation,’ but we knew what was there.”

Arizona traded Martin Prado to the Yankees, and also traded Gerardo Parra to the Brewers, but the Mets were never connected to the D-Backs in trade rumors during the week prior to Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline.
