He also said it reflects poorly on the team that Tejada was criticized anonymously in the press (Carig, Feb. 26).
Tejada was one of several players that attended an off-season health and fitness camp.
However, a team source recently said, “He looks pretty much the same,” according to the New York Post’s Kevin Kernan (NY Post, Feb. 25).
According to multiple reports last Spring, Tejada arrived to camp out of shape, which was followed by a below-average season and injury.
“We’re always looking to improve,” Sandy Alderson said in January (NY Post, Jan. 24), regarding his roster. However, he added, “We will be happy going into spring training with Ruben penciled in as being our starting shortstop.”
That said, the Mets continue to be connected in rumors to Mariners SS Nick Franklin and free-agent SS Stephen Drew.
