"I don’t want anything to take away from what we’re trying to do," Collins said.
"Sandy [Alderson] and I talk every single day, and at the end of the season we’ll talk about it then, but right now it is not an issue. I have no problem where I stand.’’
In a final vote on MetsBlog.com last September, 46% said they held a favorable view of Collins, while 29% held an unfavorable view and 23% were undecided.
He should keep repeating this, because it will not go away until seemingly every reporter has asked him about it at least once. At best, it will fade, only to emerge again if the team gets off to a rough start or incredibly hot start. Anything in between will let the can get kicked down the road, which is how it should be. I like Terry, but there is too much in the air to lock in to a manager for Phase 2 of Alderson's plan. If Terry's the guy to get this team to the next level, with the young players that will be counted on, he should get a new deal. If he isn't, he shouldn't. If they don't know enough yet, they should wait... it's not that complicated. As a hopeful fan, I'm totally fine with this approach...
