Now Commenting On:

Terry Collins will return to manage the Mets in 2015, assuming they don't totally fall apart before the end of the season, a source familiar with the situation told reporter Jon Heyman (CBS Sports, August 13).

The Mets first signed Collins to a two-year deal in late 2010, his option was picked up for 2013, after which he signed a two-year extension, which includes a team option for 2016.

The Mets are 282-324 under Collins.

As I said the other day, while I don't necessarily think Collins should be fired, I do think it's worth taking a closer look at what he's doing, why, and if he's the right person to lead this team next season and beyond... as it seems I'm not alone, since he appears to be losing support, at least among fans who voted in our most recent poll:

Look, I like Terry’s energy. He seems to be a smart baseball guy who knows the game and is supposedly great with motivating young kids. However, if the Mets are going to continue to win games on the margins (which will be the case given the type of team Alderson is building) I fear they're going to need a much better tactician at the helm, not just a motivator. I hope Alderson is confident in his decision. If so, since I mostly trust what he's doing, I'll do my best to trust in this choice as well...
