The Mets have not finalized a trade of Jeurys Familia, and he will be unavailable to pitch on Saturday for the second straight day.
The Mets are working to finalize a deal to send Familia to Oakland, according to major league sources. The expectation is that the Mets will get lower level prospects back from Oakland.
The deal has not been finalized, but was advanced enough to keep Familia out of Friday's game. Typically, that means that teams are going through medicals of the players involved.
There had been no announcement expected on Friday night. Until a trade is official, it can always be derailed.
"I love this team and all my teammates. I have good memories here," Familia said when asked about the trade. "So, it's really tough."
Familia added "it's way different" when hearing you are going to be traded compared to hearing rumors earlier this season.
In 40 games this season, Familia owns a 2.88 ERA and 17 saves over 40.2 innings. The 28-year-old also has four blown saves on the season.
