These are the current NL East standings... look at it. Look. It's hard to believe, isn't it? The Mets have 10 wins more than the Nationals. 10! They have 20 wins more than the Marlins, who all the 'experts' were so excited about this past winter. The whole thing almost doesn't make sense or seem real?
Also, the Mets are 20 games over .500. 20!! I always felt the Mets would get back to this point, but I certainly didn't expect to see it on Sept. 13, 2015. As it stands, they're on pace to win 92 games.
In a poll on MetsBlog in March, just 14% of more than 8,000 voters predicted the Mets to win more than 90 games. The overwhelming majority, myself included, had them winning around 85 or so. I thought 90 was a total long shot. Around the same time, 65% of voters said the Mets were capable of winning the NL East, the rest said they were not. This past week on MetsBlog, just 11% of more than 11,000 voters said they only expect the Mets to win a division title. However, nearly 70% expect the Mets to get to the World Series, with almost half expecting them to win it all.
Lastly, the Mets magic number is 12, which means they clinch the NL East with any combination of Mets wins and Nationals losses equalling 12. In case you're thinking about champagne, their next three series are at home against the Marlins, Yankees and Braves, after which they're on the road through Cincinnati and Philadelphia.
I have no other point to this post other than to say, 'Wow,' I love where we're at right now, I am besides myself and I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking how awesome this is...
