"Under the new collective bargaining agreement, a player with significant MLB experience the previous season who comes to camp the next year on a minor league deal gets an early decision on whether he has made the team," Rubin explains.
The rule states the team must inform a player that falls under this classification they've made the Major League team by March 26, pay them $100,000 to go to the minor leagues, or release them.
Rubin says Scott Atchison is not eligible for an early notification because the Red Sox non-tendered him after the 2012 season.
I expect Hawkins and Feliciano will make the team. Terry Collins has indicated the veterans have a leg up on the competition for the open bullpen roles, and so unless there is an injury or something which might prevent them from being promoted, they should go north with the team.
In the case of Byrdak, he won't be ready until well into the second half, at best. I expect the Mets will keep him, he will stay back in Port St. Lucie, and continue his rehab under the same supervision he's had since last year.
