Matt Fox has pitched to a 6.24 ERA in 11 road starts (2.66 in 8 home starts) despite similar hit, BB and K rates. He particularly struggled in two starts in Salt Lake, which like Colorado Springs is one of the more hitter friendly environments in the PCL. Yet another roster move will be needed to activate Fox from the temporarily inactive list. Sacramento trails the 51s by 2 games with 5 games left for both teams.
Erik Goeddel has found his 10th win to be elusive going 0-3 in his last 6 starts. He's pitched to a 3.30 ERA and allowed 40 base runners in 30 IP during August. Orioles RHP Jason Hammel will make a rehab appearance but has been out for a month so may not go for very long. Bowie is 4 games out of the final playoff spot in the EL, with 5 games left.
Hansel Robles is one of the few Mets pitching prospects who could use the extra work that a playoff start would provide. He's totaled 87.1 IP between the FSL and GCL which might not be more than last year when he tallied 72.2 IP for the Cyclones after spending two plus months in XST. He will participate in the Arizona Fall league to extend his year.
The scenario that gets the St. Lucie Mets into the playoffs is as follows 1) win all 4 of their remaining games against Jupiter 2) Palm Beach win 3 of 4 from Charlotte creating a 3 team tie. Long odds...
Gabriel Ynoa will make one last start (on 8 days rest) setting him up for the Gnats first playoff game, six days from now.
Jorge Rivero has been the Gnats regular 2B for much of the second half, and can also play some OF. He's hitting .279/ .340 /.333 over 33 games. Paul Sewald has not allowed a run over his last nine appearances and has an ERA of 1.70 over 53 IP this year. He has struck out 63 and walked 7 and picked up 7 saves.
Miller Diaz found his groove against Vermont in his last two starts; striking out 18, walking 6, and allowing 8 hits over 13 IP. He beat SI on July 27th (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 8 K) Brooklyn has gone 5-7 against their lowly cross town rivals, while Aberdeen has gone 7-4 against SI. Aberdeen trails the Cyclones by a half game in the division race. The NYPL regular season plays through Sept 4th.
R: Bluefield Blue Jays (40-25) @ Kingsport Mets (38-27) Thursday 7:00 ET – LHP Zak Wasilewski (4-1, 2.77) vs. RHP Gaby Almonte (3-2, 2.31 in GCL)
Zak Wasilewski ..limited Kingsport to 2 hits and 3 walks over 4 IP, striking out 5 on Aug 24th.
Gaby Almonte has joined Kingsport for final series of the year so the playoff rotation can be set up. With only a half game lead on the division the K-Mets seem more concerned with keeping their best pitchers available for the playoffs than winning home field advantage for the short 3 game series. Bluefield also has a half game lead on Pulaski who they will play in the other division series.
