The Mets were among the 18-20 teams that watched Hanrahan throw a showcase in April (Heyman, April 17), during which his velocity was between 87-93 mph. However, the Mets had been on the fence about Hanrahan as recently as last week (Daily News, Apr. 25) NY Post, Apr. 21).
According to multiple reports, Hanrahan is progressing in his rehab from Tommy John and flexor tendon surgery and expected to be ready to pitch in late May.
Hanrahan, 32, entered last season with 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings during the previous five years. He had been hitting 90-92 mph during his rehab toward the end of last summer (Rosenthal, Mar. 14).
The Mets bullpen is ninth in baseball with a 2.72 ERA during the past two weeks (@TPGMets, Twitter).
