Dickey went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA, having allowed 192 hits and 54 walks with 230 strikeouts in 233 2/3 innings. He became the first Met to win 20 games since Frank Viola in 1990.
Dickey has to be the favorite to win the Cy Young Award, And, ESPN's Cy Young Award tracker says R.A. Dickey should win the National League Cy Young Award this year:
Dickey was the best pitcher in baseball from start to finish in 2012. He led the league in strikeouts, innings pitched, WHIP, complete games, shutouts, was second in ERA and wins but had 26 percent of the team's wins, had an incredible 4.25:1 strikeouts to walk ratio...the list goes on. He was also the most consistent starting pitcher from start to finish, pitched the entire year with a torn abdominal muscle, and was flat out dominant in most of his starts.
Put it this way: If Dickey doesn't win the Cy Young Award, it would be a complete injustice and very disappointing.
The Cy Young Awards in both leagues will be announced on November 14.
