Now Commenting On:

In his last four appearances, Triple-A reliever Vic Black has walked no one and struck out six in four innings. His fastball has reached 99 mph.

This season in Las Vegas, he has allowed just one earned run in 13.1 innings, while striking out 15 of 59 batters. Opponents are hitting .191 against him.

Black had a 1.15 WHIP and a 3.46 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Mets last season.

He was acquired from the Pirates in August with 2B Dilson Herera for John Buck and Marlon Byrd.

It was assumed that Black would be in the Opening Day bullpen. But, he had a terrible spring training, struggling with his control and velocity. He seems to have both under control in Vegas. he is going to be promoted sooner than later, I bet. He's doing well and the Mets need help. He could easily replace Jose Valverde, who has pitched just twice in the last 10 days. There was hype around Black before St. Lucie, hopefully it soon will return...
