Now Commenting On:

Mets reliever Vic Black will begin the season in Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced today.

In 10 games this spring, Black, has a 5.79 ERA, allowing 13 hits and walking 10 batters, in 9 1/3 innings.

Black, 25, entered spring training expected to be the team's primary setup man to closer Bobby Parnell.

He had a 3.46 ERA in 15 appearances for the Mets last season after being traded from the Pirates for Marlon Byrd and John Buck.

Now the question is: Who takes his place? I figured Black would join Bobby ParnellCarlos TorresJose Valverde, Jeurys FamiliaScott Rice and John Lannan in the Opening Day bullpen. Gonzalez Germen is the only guy on the 40-man who is still in camp that makes sense for this role, and he's looked good this spring, despite his 5.40 ERA. If I had to guess, I'd say he gets the final slot...
