Mets 2B Asdrubal Cabrera was ejected from the Mets game against the Yankees on Saturday afternoon after spiking his bat in the 5th inning. Cabrera disagreed with the third base umpire's ruling that he went around for strike three on a check swing.
With the Mets down 4-1, Cabrera was at bat with two runners on base with the chance to claw the team back in the game. With two strikes, Yankees RHP Sonny Gray spun a breaking ball in the dirt and Cabrera attempted to check his swing.
Upon being called out, Cabrera spiked his bat in disagreement near Austin Romine as the catcher worked to retrieve the ball in the dirt.
The Mets have a short bench with Yoenis Cespedes out of the starting in his second game back from the DL, Jeurys Familia in trade limbo as well as Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman working high pitch counts in Friday's game.
Cabrera ends the game 0-3 following his ejection. Devin Mesoraco replaced Cabrera.
