Pete Alonso has not minced words when asked about his excitement level for the 2020 season.
After he exploded on the scene by slashing .260/.358/.566 with an MLB rookie single-season record 53 home runs and 120 RBI, Alonso has been looking forward to his sophomore campaign since the Mets last walked off Citi Field.
Alonso touched upon that preparation and anticipation in an interview Sunday with SNY's Steve Gelbs.
"Quite honestly, after the first month or so, it's like, 'Dang, it's only Christmas,' or it's like, 'I can't wait for this season to start back up,'" Alonso told Gelbs from the dugout during the Mets' 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
"I mean, the way we left it off last year, it's like we definitely had some unfinished business. And just reaching out to some of the guys throughout the offseason, wanting to keep in touch, I'm just pumped up for what this team can do."
