Last season, the Yankees were one of the best teams in baseball, but Dellin Betances had to watch that success from the dugout. Betances was injured throughout the 2019 season, except for one game where he faced two batters that he struck out before suffering a torn Achilles.
So Betances went into free agency coming off a season that he admitted was tough to handle. He spoke to SNY's Steve Gelbs on Mets Hot Stove to explain what he went through.
"It was tough, last year was definitely tough," Betances told Gelbs. "For me, I enjoy winning. And not being able to play and help my teammates out, I think it hurts me more than anything. I missed the game of baseball a lot. Just watching and seeing the guys play really well with the Yankees last year and not being able to contribute hurt me a lot."
Betances isn't going to dwell on last season, though. He's ready for his new chapter with the Mets, one where he hopes to bounce back and contribute to his new team's success.
"I feel great now, so I'll be ready to fully go in Spring Training. I'm confident I'll be back to what I was a couple years ago," he said.
