The Mets have won five of their last eight games, all on the road against the Braves and Phillies...
The Mets off today. They travel to Chicago to play the White Sox for two games starting Tuesday.
The Mets have dug a deep hole here, so it is too early to start daydreaming about a playoff run. However, it's nice to see these guys finally hitting and pitching well in games not started by Harvey and Zack Wheeler. I know the Mets are trying to make a meaningful trade for the lineup, and Travis d'Arnaud will join this team sooner than later. Hopefully these additions, maybe getting Ike Davis back and hitting better, and other pitchers (specifically in the bullpen) actually stepping up their game a bit, things could be a lot more interesting this summer than expected. I can hope, right?
In case you missed it this past weekend, Jon Niese was put on the DL with a partial tear of his rotator cuff. Assistant GM John Ricco said Niese will be reevaluated after two weeks of rest, after which it will be more clear if he needs surgery.
Lucas Duda was put on the 15-day DL with a left intercostal strain. He was replaced on the roster by 1B-3B Zach Lutz, who was promoted from Triple-A.
ESPN New York reported that Ike Davis could return to the Mets as soon as this weekend, when the Mets start a three-game series against the Nationals.
David Wright took his first lead in voting to be the starting third base for the National League All-Star team.
Lastly, Tim Byrdak started for the GCL Mets and allowed a walk with a strikeout in one inning as he continues his return from surgery.
