Bartolo Colon pitched the ninth, making his first relief appearance since 2011. Terry Collins said before the game he would use Colon in relief if needed because the bullpen was tired after back-to-back extra-inning games.
Washington beat Miami 5-1 to cut the Mets' NL East lead to 5 1/2 games.
The Mets acquired RH reliever Addison Reed from the Diamondbacks pending a physical. The Mets will reportedly send RH relievers Matt Koch and Miller Diaz for the former closer for the White Sox and Diamondbacks.
The Mets claimed Padres LHP Marc Rzepczynski off revocable waivers and are working on a deal to acquire him, Ken Rosenthal reported.
Lucas Duda (back) hasn't swung a bat since going on the DL last week. Last week, Sandy Alderson said the Mets had gotten "favorable reports" on the first baseman.
Collins also said the decision to pull Matt Harvey after 103 pitches and six shutout innings Friday is part of the strategy to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Collins also said the Mets do not want Harvey to skip another start, but didn't guarantee it wouldn't happen.
