In his latest start against the Dodgers on Sunday night, Mets RHP Jacob deGrom had another dominant outing. And in doing so, it was another example as to why he is a leading candidate for the Cy Young Award this season.

Here's how deGrom's outing stacked up against his competition for the award in Nationals RHP Max Scherzer and Phillies RHP Aaron Nola...

RHP Jacob deGrom (8-8, 1.68 ERA/2.07 FIP, 0.96 WHIP over 188 innings in 28 starts)

DeGrom allowed just one run -- a solo homer by Justin Turner in the first -- on two hits while striking out six and walking one over six innings of work. This performance set a new major league record being that it was deGrom's 25th straight start allowing three or fewer runs.

DeGrom already had the best ERA in baseball, but it improved even more after this outing. He also has 230 strikeouts on the season, and owns a 11.01 K/9 -- a career high.

RHP Max Scherzer (16-6, 2.28 ERA/2.73 FIP, 0.88 WHIP over 193.2 innings in 29 starts)

Scherzer took a no-decision in his start against the Cardinals on Monday. He allowed three runs on four hits while reaching double digits in strikeouts yet agian with 11 over seven innings.

The veteran furthered his reign as the strikeout leader across the MLB, racking his total up to 260. He also owns the best opponent average in the National League at .179 as well as WHIP. His 12.08 K/9 is a tick higher than it was last season (12.02), so he is slightly on pace to record more by the end of the year.

RHP Aaron Nola (15-4, 2.23 ERA/2.76 FIP, 0.97 WHIP over 181.2 innings in 28 starts)

Nola was roughed up a little more than normal in his latest outing against the Cubs on Sunday. He allowed four runs on five hits while striking out 11 and walking two over 5.2 innings. Nola allowed a season-high three homers as well.

Nola's ERA still eeks out Scherzer for second behind deGrom this season. He also has a .198 opponent average on the season.
