Now Commenting On:

Switch-hitting, Triple-A infielder Daniel Muno started at second base Friday in place of Daniel Murphy, who is sidelined with a strained hamstring.

"I want to see if he has the potential to maybe be a bench player for us," Terry Collins said.

Anthony Recker, John Mayberry Jr., Ruben Tejada, Eric Campbell and Kirk Nieuwenhuis are reportedly the front-runners to be on the team's bench Opening Day.

Muno, 26, was selected in the eighth round of the 2011 Draft and has played second, third base and shortstop during his professional career.

He hit .259 with a .372 OBP, 14 HR, 14 doubles and nine stolen bases in 359 at bats with Triple-A Las Vegas in 2014.
