Now Commenting On:

Lets head south to the Caribbean, for our first check of Mets guys playing winter ball early on.

LMPC Xorge Carillo (Aguilas de Mexicali) - .313/.313/.406, 3 2B, 0 BB/6 K - 10 gms

2B Juan Carlos Gamboa (Caneros de los Mochis) - .231/.267/.462, 1 HR, 1 BB/5 K - 6 gms

The LMP is hitting .248/.318/.367 and scoring 3.88 runs per game.

Carillo barely played in 2013 while bouncing between Mets' affiliates to be a third catcher at various levels.

VWL1B Allan Dykstra: .267/.450/.333, 1 2B, 4 BB/5 K - 5 gms

SS Wilfredo Tovar: .294/.333/.529, 1 2B, 1 HR, 0 BB/0K - 5 gms

The VWL is hitting .275/.357/.414 and scores 5.2 runs per game.

In what will surely be a shock to regular readers, Dykstra is drawing walks.

Tovar homered and made two errors on Sunday, which is weird, but even weirder for Tovar, a glove-first shortstop with very little power.

DWLCF Juan Lagares (Aguilas Cibaenas): .250/.250/.250, 0 XBH, 0 BB/2 K - 3 gms

C Francisco Pena (Aguilas Cibaenas): .313/.389/.375, 1 2B, 2 BB/1 K - 5 gms

RF Cesar Puello (Toros del Este): .200/.200/.320, 1 HR, 0 BB/5 K - 7 gms

CF/LF Jordany Valdespin (Tigres del Licey): .160/.364/.280, 1 HR, 5 BB/9 K - 8 gms

The DWL hits .254/.334/.393 and scores 4.7 runs per game.

So this is an interesting race: who will walk first, Juan Lagares or Cesar Puello? Both guys, have, ahem, room to improve when it comes to their approach at the plate.
