The Brooklyn Nets face the Miami Heat on the road Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

According to STATS:

  • The Heat overcame an 18-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and defeated Brooklyn last Wednesday, 109-106. It was Miami's largest fourth-quarter comeback win since at least 2002-03. The Heat have now won eight of nine meetings against the Nets since 2014-15.
  • Through Sunday, Nets opponents have combined for a .523 winning percentage, making Brooklyn's strength of schedule to date the toughest in the Eastern Conference. Only Dallas and Phoenix (.526 each) have faced tougher slates in the entire NBA.
  • After going just 11-30 through their first 41 games of 2016-17 (halfway point of the season), the Heat have won their last seven games. Miami surrendered just 12 points in the fourth quarter of Saturday's victory over Detroit, and currently leads the league this season with an average of 23.6 points allowed per game in the fourth period.
  • Rookie guard Isaiah Whitehead led the Nets with eight assists on Saturday, matching a season high. He currently paces Brooklyn with 2.9 assists per game, the lowest rate by any team leader in the league.
  • Goran Dragic scored 23 points Saturday, just above his season average of 22.2 points per game at home. That's 4.5 better than his rate on the road (17.7), the largest such disparity in the NBA (based on home better, minimum played 75 percent of team games both home and road).
  • In addition to scoring 18 points on Saturday, James Johnson contributed eight rebounds and five assists. It was the seventh time this season that Johnson combined at least five rebounds and five assists off the bench, the most by any reserve in 2016-17.

Just two weeks ago, Miami Heat fans were thinking about the lottery and the possibility of drafting a dynamic talent such as 6-foot-6 freshman point guard Lonzo Ball of UCLA or 6-4 freshman point guard Markelle Fultz of Washington.

How times have changed for the Heat (18-30), owners of the longest active win streak in the NBA.

Now the dream has changed. Now there are visions of playoffs and a lengthy winning streak that is at seven games and could climb to 10 ... 12 ... gulp ... 15?

MIAMI -- This season may be the first time in 17 years that the New York Knicks can actually say they are better than the Miami Heat.

New York, led by established standouts Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose and superstar-in-the making 7-3 center/forward/shooting guard Kristaps Porzingis, may be for real this time around.

The old rivals -- more on that later -- will meet on Tuesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena, and the Knicks (11-9) are in a virtual three-way tie for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. They have won three in a row and eight of their past 11 and are just one game out of third place.

Josh Richardson finished with 16 points in a spot start and Justise Winslow added 13 for Miami, which clamped down defensively in the second half.

Brook Lopez scored 26 points for Brooklyn, which had its streak of seven straight games with 100 or more points - the team's longest in two years - come to an end. Thaddeus Young made his first 10 shots and scored 20 for the Nets, who got 14 from Sean Kilpatrick.

Wade is averaging 27.1 points in his last seven games against the Nets. He shot 14 for 19 from the field on Monday, helping ensure that Joe Johnson's first game against his former team would be a winning one. >> Read more

Losing their leading scorer seems to have finally caught up with the Miami Heat during back-to-back defeats, though help may be on the way in the form of a seven-time All-Star.

Following his departure from Brooklyn, Joe Johnson is expected to be back in New York and eligible to make his Miami debut Sunday night when the Heat try to keep the Knicks from winning consecutive games for the first time in more than five weeks.

After winning its first three games after Chris Bosh was sidelined due to blood clots, Southeast Division-leading Miami (32-26) couldn't keep up with Golden State in Wednesday's 118-112 home defeat before struggling offensively in Saturday's 101-89 loss at Boston.

The Knicks are in Miami on Monday to take on the Heat at 7:30 p.m.

According to STATS...

  • The Heat outscored the Knicks by an average margin of 102-87 while sweeping all three games in last year's season series. Miami has now won its last six games versus New York, one shy of the Heat's longest streak ever in the all-time series (seven straight wins twice).
  • The Knicks have won four in a row for the first time since April 2014. At 5-2 away from home, New York is tied for the second-best road winning percentage (.714) in the league (Golden State 7-0, 1.000). It is the Knicks' best start through seven road games since opening 5-2 in 2000-01.
  • The Heat overcame a 17-point deficit to beat Philadelphia in Miami on Saturday, 96-91. And for the season overall, the Heat rank in the Top 10 in both scoring offense (26.5, 7th) and scoring defense (23.8, 8th) in the fourth quarter.
  • Kristaps Porzingis, the fourth overall pick of the 2015 draft, blocked seven shots on Saturday. That was the highest single-game total by any rookie this season, as well as the top mark by any Knicks rookie since at least 1985-86.
  • Carmelo Anthony has scored at least 26 points in nine of his last 10 games against the Heat (since April 15, 2012). That includes a 50-point outburst at Miami on April 2, 2013, which is Anthony's best road total ever versus any opponent.
  • Dwyane Wade registered season highs with 11 made free throws and 27 points on Saturday. In the process, Wade moved past Dale Ellis (19,004) and Reggie Theus (19,015) and into 49th place on the all-time scoring list with 19,017 career points.

Tonight, the Nets head to the American Airlines Arena to take on the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. Brooklyn will look to earn a regular season sweep of Miami after winning the previous three matchups this season.

Miami is the only legitimate playoff contender left on the Nets' remaining schedule, so tonight could be a tune-up game for both teams before the postseason gets started.

Before the 2013-14 NBA season began, the Heat had won the last 13 consecutive matchups between these two teams. But with a win tonight, Brooklyn would earn a four-game season sweep against Miami for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

Tonight, the Nets look to make it five in a row when they host the defending champion Miami Heat on nickname jersey night at the Barclays Center. Both teams will wear nicknames in place of their last names on the back of their jerseys tonight, but it won't be fun and games come tip off time.

The Nets beat Miami in their home opener back in November, and they might be catching the Heat at a good time tonight, as Miami will be playing their fifth game in seven days. Dwyane Wade may not suit up tonight for rest purposes, which might even it up for the Nets who are still without their two best players.

Brooklyn is 4-0 since the calendar turned to 2014, a season-high win streak that's helped even up their home record to 9-9 on the season. The Nets haven't beaten the Heat two meetings in a row since the 2007-08 season, and they also haven't won more than five games in any single month yet this season.

What is the point of this other than to sell tickets and make consumers spend over $100 for another jersey with a players "nickname" on it??I thought nicknames on jerseys were worn by fans who had them custom made with their own names on the back, not NBA players in official NBA games.

New York ? The Nets are in Boston and are set to battle the Celtics in what will be the club's 78th game of the season.

It?s hard to believe, but after tonight, only four games remain in the Nets inaugural campaign in Brooklyn.

The club now sits comfortably in the fourth seed in the conference after the Chicago Bulls lost to the Toronto Raptors last night. The Nets are now three games ahead of the Bulls for the fourth seed. The Bulls, though, only lead the Atlanta Hawks by 1/2 game, so while the Nets are comfortably in the fourth seed, there is still uncertainty as to who they will square off against in the first round of this year's playoffs.

The Nets are off to a 3-1 start on this critical eight-game road trip and the team will battle the Portland Trailblazers in Portland tonight. ?The Nets will then play games at the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz before heading back East to play at the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The one loss on the road trip so far came against the Clippers, a team the Nets defeated at home earlier this season. The Clippers are the caliber of team the Nets must beat if they think they are going to make a deep playoff run.

If you give your opponent more chances to score by turning the ball over, the other team will eventually capitalize on those chances.

In both of the Nets? recent losses to the Mavericks and Bulls, Brooklyn has turned the ball over a combined 41 times. Turning the ball over 20-plus times for games is almost certainly a recipe for disaster.

On Wednesday night, the Nets were defeated by the Miami Heat by a final score of 105-85.

The Skinny: Miami?s ?Big Three? started red hot from the field, hitting on seven of their first 10 shots to establish a 10-point advantage. The Nets made a small dent into the lead, but the Heat shot 5-for-5 from three-point range in the quarter to maintain a 10-point lead after one.

Miami kept knocking down threes, but the Nets? second unit, led by Andray Blatche, provided an energy boost to get within six. Brook Lopez began heating up from the outside to help cut the lead to two, and he then found Gerald Wallace down low for a layup on the next possession to tie the game. The teams traded buckets in the closing seconds to head into the break all tied up. The Nets outscored the Heat 29-19 in the second quarter.

On Wednesday night, the Nets were defeated by the Miami Heat by a final score of 103-73.

The Skinny: It was all LeBron James against Kris Humphries in the early going. James tallied 11 first quarter points, while the Big Hump added nine, which helped the Nets keep the game close after one. The Heat went on an 11-2 run spanning the quarters, as Dwyane Wade began heating up. Brooklyn struggled shooting the entire first half, which allowed Miami to open a nine-point lead at the break. The Heat ran away with the game in the third quarter, opening up a 23-point lead as the Nets shooting woes continued. Both teams emptied their benches in the fourth quarter in what was garbage time at the end.
