S Michael Johnson has been placed on IR. While this certainly signals the end of his season, it may also be the end of his Giants career.

Johnson, was not expected to make the team until rookie Chad Jones suffered career threatening injuries in an off-season car accident. Behind Kenny Phillips, Antrel Rolle, and Deon Grant, Johnson was the team's 4th saftey.

Johnson showed promise as a reliable dime back along side Craig Dahl during the 2007 Super Bowl run, but never quite nailed down the starting job vacated by Gibril Wilson the following year.

Who would have thunk it? Following a training camp riddled with injuries (let alone a 2009 campaign with a disabled list theme) The Giants have only one player ruled out due to injury for their opener.

That player of course is Phillip Dillard, a rookie linebacker who didn't figure to see much playing time today anyway. As reported earlier, Aaron Ross is doubtful.

The Giants, for the first time in recent memory, will have to make as many as 6 healthy scratches to whittle down to 45.
