Monta Ellis

In an ESPN Insider series projecting the top performers for the 2013-14 NBA season, analyst Bradford Doolittle has New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith as the No. 7-ranked shooting guard in the league.

Smith is the lone Knicks player to crack the guard rankings, and the front court players will be ranked throughout the rest of this week.

The sixth-ranked shooting guard in the 2012-13 season, Smith is listed behind Dwyane Wade, James Harden, Manu Ginobli, Kobe Bryant, Bradley Beal and Louis Williams, who rank first through sixth, respectively.

Tonight at 8 p.m., the Nets will play the second of a tough back-to-back, home-and-home series with the Milwaukee Bucks.

It took an overtime thriller and few big shots from Joe Johnson last night for the Nets to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Bucks.

Milwaukee had defeated Brooklyn the previous two matchups this season, so the Nets will try to even the season series tonight on the road.

The holiday doesn't stop the news coming out in Knickerbocker land. Marc Berman is reporting that Duhon is still waiting on an official offer from Orlando.

It is clear that the Knicks two year offer is not satisfactory to Duhon's camp, but that might be moot. Its reported that Orlando is monitoring the Corey Maggette situation before they finalize anything with Duhon. This will probably last through the holiday weekend.

Monta Ellis name came up again in Alan Hahn's column this morning. A day after he "threw some cold water" on the proposition of Ellis, word comes out that the Knicks are still monitoring the situation. Right now Miami and Cleveland have been the most aggressive in pursuing Ellis.
