Despite being without their two leading scorers, Seton Hall was able to upset Maryland, the No. 7 team in the country, with a 52-48 victory on Thursday night.
Down Myles Powell and Sandro Mamukelashvili, the Pirates were led by Quincy McKnight, who scored 17 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Fellow guard Anthony Nelson was the only other Pirate to score in double figures, as he finished with 10 points.
The Pirates won the game thanks to their smothering defensive effort, holding the Terps to just 14-of-52 shooting, good for just 26.9 percent. Meanwhile, Marlyand was just 5-of-21 from beyond the arc.
For Maryland, the loss was just their second of the season, as they are now 10-2. Seton Hall improved to 7-4 on the season, and 5-1 at home. They'll begin Big East conference play next Monday against DePaul.
