SNY, the official television home of the New York Mets, Jets and all things New York Sports, celebrates the 10th anniversary of the SNY Invitational, the tri-state area's premier high school basketball tournament, Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27.
The two-day tournament kicks off live on SNY, Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. ET as the NY State Sportswriters Association's No. 3 ranked Archbishop Molloy Stanners take on No. 5 ranked Long Island Lutheran Crusaders. The Friday evening semifinal concludes as Jersey City's Hudson Catholic Hawks face off against No. 4 ranked Cardinal Hayes Cardinals. SNY's championship coverage begins Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. ET.
SNY's Eamon McAnaney will call the courtside action alongside the area's most trusted voice in high school sports, analyst Mike Quick. The network's coverage will also include feature highlights of team standouts including, Hudson Catholic's "Big 3" Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammed and Louis King; Long Island Lutheran's Andre Curbelo, Pietro Giovanardi, Donatas Kupsas and Essam Mostafa; and Archbishop Molloy's Cole Anthony and Moses Brown. Former New York Jets guard and SNY analyst Willie Colon also takes a trip back to his alma mater, Cardinal Hayes, in a special pre-taped feature.
Since the tournament's inception in 2008, 68 tournament participants have continued on to be NCAA Division 1 basketball players at elite college programs such as UConn, Kentucky, UCLA and Georgetown. Overall, the SNY Invitational has seen competitors go on to play in the NBA, including forwards Lance Stephenson and Kyle Anderson.
As part of the event, SNY will make donations totaling more than $20,000 in funds to the participating high schools. In total, SNY has contributed $365,000 in scholarships and funds to participating schools and tri-state area students. The invitational serves as part of the network's year-round community outreach initiative, SNY Play Ball. SNY has reached more than 210,000 youth players in 500 local communities in the New York and metropolitan areas.
