Mount Vernon point guard Isaiah Cousins has committed to Oklahoma, head coach Bob Cimmino confirmed to SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-4 Cousins chose the Sooners over Virginia Tech, UConn, Dayton and Xavier, Cimmino said.

"Isaiah is a 6-4 point guard who attacks the rim, hits the 3 and is a gym rat," Cimmino said. "He never takes a play off and has elevated his game tremendously in the last year."

NEW YORK???Kevin Jones tested the NBA waters after his junior season at West Virginia.

After getting feedback from NBA executives, the 6-foot-8, 260-pound Mount Vernon, N.Y., native opted to return for his senior season, and it has turned out to be a wise move.

Jones leads the Big East in both scoring (20.9 ppg) and rebounding (11.6 rpg) and is the odds-on favorite to be named Big East Player of the Year.

West Virginia-bound guard Jabarie Hinds posted 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Mount Vernon to its record-ninth New York State state championship, 62-51, over Jamestown Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

"I played well," Hinds said. "I couldn't have done it without my teammates, though."

"Jabarie dominated the flow of the game with five steals, earning MVP honors," said Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. ? Mike Coburn and Jonathan Mitchell both received the tragic news on the morning of Senior Day.

Marcquis Abney, their former teammate at Mount Vernon High School, died tragically in a car accident in Mount Vernon early Sunday morning.

?It was tough,? Coburn told SNY.tv after scoring a game-high 20 points in Rutgers? 65-54 loss to West Virginia at the RAC. ?I got a call early this morning and he was a real, real good close friend of mine. We played together all four years.?

Gilchrist, the 6-foot-7 Kentucky signee, held up his end of the bargain by dropping a career-high 34 points and 13 rebounds as Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick downed Mater Dei, 71-61, in the semifinals of the City of Palms Classic in Fort Meyers, Fla.

St. Patrick, ranked No. 11 by USA Today, beat Chicago Whitney Young, 92-68, in the quarterfinals of the City of Palms Classic behind 37 points from Western Kentucky signee Derrick Gordon.

St. Pat's on Tuesday will face the winner of Monday's game between Mater Dei (Calif.) and Christ School (N.C.).

MOUNT VERNON -- As Jabarie Hinds stood in the lobby of Mount Vernon High School Monday afternoon, he received a special request from school safety officer Debbie Thompson.

Thompson asked Hinds, the 6-foot, 170-pound West Virginia-bound point guard, to autograph her glossy new Mount Vernon basketball calendar.

"Jabarie's the man," Thompson said. "He's a smart kid. He has an ambition. He knows what he wants and he's going for it. That's a great thing."

**Louisville Coach Rick Pitino was on hand Monday night to watch Mount Vernon junior point guard Jabarie Hinds in his team's final regular season game. Hinds dropped 13 points in a 77-67 loss.

The top six schools showing interest in Hinds are Louisville, Virginia, Wake Forest, St. John?s, UNLV and Seton Hall, coach Bob Cimmino said.

NEW YORK -- One morning in the summer of 2008, Andy Kettler looked at his watch and noticed that it was five minutes before 10 and Kevin Jones had still not turned up for his appointed workout in the West Virginia weight room.

"[Shoot], Kevin's normally here by now," Kettler, West Virginia's strength and conditioning coach, thought to himself.

"All of a sudden I see Kevin running in in a warmup suit sweating his [butt] off. He ran maybe 20 minutes with a backpack and everything on and apologized to me three or four times," Kettler recalled.
