Are Islander games going to make it to a national television audience this season? There is a very good chance, according to a Newsday report.

The Islanders already had one game -- their November 1 game in San Jose -- on NBCSN and more could be scheduled.

"The NFL is going to go a whole season without flexing on Sunday Night Football," NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood told Newsday. "But there's a good chance they will flex into [another] Islanders game between now and the end of the season.

6:08 p.m.: NBC Sports released a statement to Islanders Point Blank and SNY.tv regarding the lack of Islanders games being broadcasted nationally:

?The schedule reflects that the Islanders did not make the playoffs last year. But the schedule is subject to change and allows for teams to play their way onto it later in the year.?
So, it is still unfortunate the Islanders do not have a game nationally televised, but their reasoning makes sense. From a business standpoint and a logical standpoint, NBC Sports makes sense. The Isles aren't the biggest draw on TV and did not make the playoffs, so they were the odd man out. There is also a chance for them to make it on if things change, and if they make the playoffs then they'll have to be on NBC Sports.

There was an interesting contradiction in broadcast land Tuesday night that was criminally under-reported, except by the criminally underrated Rich Chere. Tuesday night's Flyers-Devils game was blacked out on DirecTV in New Jersey, but carried in Philadelphia.

Chere wonders:

The Flyers had already had two games taken by NBC, so that would have been the third had the team not been permitted to televise the game. Comcast owns both NBC and the Flyers.

On the flip side, NBCSN has two Devils games-- April 18 in Philadelphia and April 25 against the Penguins-- but MSG will be allowed to broadcast those matches to better serve the metropolitan area market.

Shady broadcasting tactics by Comcast that serve the Flyers and hurt the Devils? What?! That never happens! Next thing you'll be telling me three of the Flyers' first four games are being broadcast on national TV channels owned by their the guy who owns their team.

Fourth Quarter:

- Two Giants are injured on the Aaron Rodgers scramble play; Kenny Phillips and JPP are slow to get up. Phillips seems to be down with a right leg injury, which should be cause for concern given his long list of leg issues.

- Chase Blackburn stays stride for stride with Finley and knocks down Rodgers' 4th down attempt. The Giants offense scoring touchdowns has afforded the defense to play its style of football.

Fourth Quarter:

- Eli opens the fourth quarter by throwing an interception in the end zone to DRC.

- The Eagles immediately capitalize on the mistake by the Giants and move the ball using LeSean McCoy. The defense for the Giants seems to be showing signs of fatigue, McCoy is taking advantage of cutback lanes left by the defensive ends.

The Giants will not be opening the 2012 season against the Green Bay Packers as many had projected.

It will be the hated Dallas Cowboys instead. Hey, why not?

The two clubs have a long history of spoiling each other's parties. The Cowboys defeated Big Blue in the first-ever game at the old Giants Stadium and then the Giants returned the favor a few years back by winning the inaugural contest at Jerry World.

This isn't breaking news by any stretch, but something's gotta be done with the Pro Bowl. NFL Network analyst and draft guru Mike Mayock, who is in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine, says the game is bordering on the ridiculous and has become an embarrassment.

From Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

I asked him which event will more closely resemble real football ? the Combine or the Pro Bowl. As to the latter, Mayock was candid.

Brandon Jacobs is tiring. He is no longer pumping his chest after the Giants' huge Super Bowl win. He'll have to continue these humble ways if he wants to remain a Giant. It is almost a slam dunk that the team will either reduce his salary or release him this spring.

From our partners at NBC Sports:

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs arrived at the NBC SportsTalk studio to talk about a variety of topics with host Russ Thaler, including Jacobs? failed attempt to play other positions before transferring from Auburn to Southern Illinois, the reaction that some defensive backs have when Jacobs is bearing down on them, and whether he would have done a better job than Ahmad Bradshaw of stopping at the one yard line late in Super Bowl XLVI.

The Giants will undoubtedly have a slew of players looking for a raise. That's what winning does. WR Victor Cruz is one of them, but GM Jerry Reese is taking a pragmatic approach to the offseason - as always.

"We?re in the early stages of our evaluating the team as a whole, individually," Reese told reporters yesterday. "We have not yet discussed anything with respect to salaries."

When asked if expects a run on his office with salary demands, Reese spun it as spoils of war.

There are better teams in this year's NFL than the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Statistics and the naked eye have proven that. But when it comes to who America loves to see play, these two are at the top of the list.

So when it came to flexing this game to NBC for the regular-season finale, it was a no-brainer for the NFL. ?Giants-Cowboys games mean big ratings. Giants-Cowboys games that have ultimate playoff ramifications have astronomical ratings.

Everyone loves the Cowboys. Well, not everyone, but there are quite a few Dallas rooters across the globe. NBC is licking their chops this week as those Cowboys host our Giants in a late-season matchup that could decide the NFC East.

The Cowboys have always been a major draw and the Giants are no slouches, either. They have been getting a lot of national TV exposure the past few seasons and America has been eating it up. When the Giants play, they know this much to be true: it is never boring. There will be a lot of TVs tuned to NBC on Sunday night. Maybe even a record number of TVs...

Last Sunday, the Giants almost knocked off the undefeated Packers in a game that came right down to the gun. This country loves its football and the year's best game was watched by a record audience....from Mark Berman of Opposing Views:

Another Hard-To-Watch Performance Underway, But Believe It Or Not It Could Be Worse

The Giants second-half swoon is in full swing as they are sleepwalking vs the Eagles in Philadelphia tonight......some key plays: a Ahmad Bradshaw fumble that led to a Philly FG and an Eli Manning INT that led to another FG.

The score could easily be 20-3 or more but the Giants lucked out on both of those drives when DeSean Jackson and Jason Avant each dropped potential TD passes. The defense is giving it everything they have, but they can only do so much here...

If you look at statistics and try to analyze any sporting event, you will slowly go insane and probably lose all your money.
