Tonight, the Nets are back on the road as they travel to face the division rival Boston Celtics at the TD Garden. Brooklyn is looking to win their fifth straight game, which would match their longest winning streak of the season.

There was a time, early in the 2013-14, when the Celtics led the Atlantic division, and the Nets were struggling to adjust. That time is long gone now, however.

Since January 1, the Nets are 20-8, with a .714 winning percentage that's the best in the Eastern Conference and third-best in the NBA. The Celtics have gone the other direction, at 7-23 in that span, with a .233 winning percentage, third-worst in the NBA.

The Nets beat the Boston Celtics?to win for the 10th time in their last 11 games. It?certainly?wasn't a pretty game, as the two teams both shot under 40% from the field, but it also wasn't your typical January matchup.

For the first time in his career, Paul Pierce played against the only franchise he'd ever known since coming into the league in 1998. He and Kevin Garnett were teammates in Celtics green for six seasons, but they were visitors at the TD Garden on Sunday.

The atmosphere was electric all night long, with thunderous cheers and classy first-quarter video tributes for the two future Hall of Fame Celtic legends.

The Least You Should Know

[sny-box] The Nets had a comfortable 13-point lead after three quarters but went cold from the field to start the fourth. The Celtics though could not make a serious enough dent into the lead, so when Brooklyn regained its stroke, the game was sealed.

Tonight, the Nets play their third division game of the season, as they take on the Boston Celtics at the Barclays Center at 7:30 pm. The two teams came together on a major trade this past offseason, and there's no doubt the players involved in that deal have had December 10 circled on their calendars ever since.

In July, the Nets and Celtics agreed on a deal that sent future Hall of Famers Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, along with Jason Terry, to Brooklyn in exchange for five players and three future first-round draft picks. It was expected that the Nets would become a powerhouse, while the Celtics would be in rebuilding mode.

However, few would've expected the two teams to be in the respective positions they find themselves in today, as the two teams get set to square off for the first time this season. It's the Celtics, not the Nets, who sit atop the Atlantic division with a 10-12 record. It's the Nets, not the Celtics who enter tonight fourth in the division at 6-14.

So the Brooklyn Nets acquired two Hall of Famers to team up with three superstars to form easily one of the best ? if not the best ? starting five in the NBA.

The blockbuster trade sending Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets from the Boston Celtics is official, meaning the Nets starting lineup will feature a combined 35 All-Star appearances and be worth $82 million.

Last season, one of the Nets? strengths was the team?s depth. The team received significant contributions from the ?Bench Mob? including Andray Blatche, C.J. Watson, Keith Bogans and at times Jerry Stackhouse.

On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 101-93.

The Skinny: The Celtics raced out to the early lead, relying on hot three-point shooting to open an eight-point lead. But Joe Johnson found his outside stroke, and the Nets responded with a 13-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by C.J. Watson. Brooklyn led by one after one.

Deron Williams took control offensively to open the second quarter, helping to increase the Nets? lead to six. Boston?s second unit immediately fought back to regain the lead, but from there the Nets went on a 15-4 run to lead by 10 at the break. D-Will scored 11 points in the quarter, and things began to get chippy as Kevin Garnett picked up a technical foul for a skirmish with Reggie Evans.

On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 95-83.

The Skinny: Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries exploited their height advantage over the Celtics in the early minutes, but Lopez committed two fouls in 3:30 to send him to the bench. Kevin Garnett took over from there, scoring six early points, but he also took a seat in the opening minutes. The Nets went on an 8-0 run to establish a three-point lead and led by eight after the first quarter.

The Nets? bench, led by Andray Blatche and Jerry Stackhouse, came out with great energy in the second quarter. Brooklyn jumped out to a 21-point lead with a great offensive effort, but it was the defense that was most impressive in the first half, forcing Boston into 13 first half turnovers. The Celtics made a comeback, but the Nets still led by 13 at the break.

The entire NBA? knows what the normal defensive protocol is for playing Boston Celtics all-star point guard Rajon Rondo: go under the screens on pick-and-rolls and make him beat you with his jump shot. Don't allow him to create easy buckets in the paint for others or otherwise wreak havoc in the lane.

Ahead of tonight's game, it will be interesting to see how the Nets play him. Rondo may surprise them with improve perimeter shooting proficiency.
