The Nets and Magic were tied at the half, but the Nets built a nine-point lead entering the final quarter. The Magic scored 38 points in the fourth quarter to eke out the win in the final minutes.
D'Angelo Russell scored 29 points to pace the Nets, who blew a pair of 12-point leads in the game.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scoed 18 points, while DeMarre Carroll had 17 points. Caris LeVert tied a team high with eight rebounds and had a team-high five assists.
The Nets will host the Cavaliers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Barclays Center.
