The Nets sat struggling rookie guard Isaiah Whitehead in Thursday's loss to the Celtics, although head coach Kenny Atkinson said the rest was pre-planned.
The 6-foot-4 rookie shooting guard has just nine points on 3-of-13 shooting from the field in two preseason games. He also has four turnovers and has yet to hit a 3-pointer.
Atkinson said after the loss that Whitehead will get back in the lineup at some point soon.
"He'll get a shot again, and other guys will rest," Atkinson said, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. "Just part of the plan. It wasn't any reaction to having a so-so game. We have a plan in place. We're sticking to it."
Whitehead admitted he has struggled, as he is still looking to find a rhythm on the court.
"I'm getting good looks. I've just got to get comfortable, just making them, getting in the right balance, things like that,'' Whitehead said. "It's just overall getting better. It's no specific one thing thing."
The Nets next play the Celtics on Monday in Boston at 7:30 P.M.
